3 Reasons You Need a Honeymoon

I've never felt so dazed, stunned, happy and exhausted before that moment.

Once the wedding is over, there is this strange feeling of, "Wait....hold on.  Is it really over?  Are we...married now?!"  After the reality of that starts to seep in, the exhaustion hits.  And it hits hard.  Which brings me to my first reason why you NEED a honeymoon.  Not a month later.  Not a year later.  But right after that knot is tied:

1.  You can sleep for however long your little body needs.

I seriously felt like I could sleep for the rest of my life.  It felt like I ran a marathon and then pulled an all nighter.  Sleep is so, so good for the body...and mind...and emotional wellbeing.  Get a king size bed wherever you're staying and enjoy.  You don't have to wake up and worry about breakfast (or the fact that you don't have food at the house!), you don't have to answer any texts or phone calls, and you have no responsibility.  You can just rest, recover and let your mind process what. just. happened.

We jetted off to Bequia for our honeymoon.  It's a teeny tiny island near Barbados.  After numerous flights, this king sized bed + flowers (in the shape of a heart!) was exactly what I needed.

2.  No other trip will be like your honeymoon.

I would catch a glimpse of his ring and smile as the reality hit me again - that's my husband!  We were in our own little world.  Every single thing we did was special because they were all "firsts" as husband and wife.  Our first time at the beach together.  Our first time driving in a foreign country together.  It was special to do those things, but doing them, together, as man and wife, was the absolute best.  We have traveled since our honeymoon, but no other trip has (nor will) feel like that.  Plus, you just *might* get a whole lot of free stuff when you tell people you're on your honeymoon.  Just maybe ;)

3.  Life gets in the way.

Once you're back home, real life happens.  You'll have work.  You have gifts to open, thank you cards to write, name - change forms to fill out, and dishes to clean.  Bills will have to be paid, and, sometimes that honeymoon savings has to get dipped into.  And, sometimes, the honeymoon just doesn't happen.

Your honeymoon is the start of your adventure together.  It's the beginning, treat yourselves.  You don't have to fly across the world - go camping if you'd like!  Just go.  Go.  Go.

Because, trust me, after planning a wedding for 3...9...12 months, you're gonna NEED a vacay ;)
